Anyone who has seen the quick yet horrifying Mr. Hands clip that circulated the internet has probably had its ghastly imagery tattooed in their memories for a lifetime. After learning of the incident, one cannot help but wonder what happened that led to it, and why was it filmed? How did the man get to that point in his life? Where was this place? Was it an illegal animal sex farm where people could go to have their kinkiest bestial fantasies fulfilled? It is impossible not to speculate. I was interested when I found out that there was going to be a documentary film called Zoo, which focused on the bizarre, fateful recorded moment in time. The more I heard about it, the more it became one of my most anticipated films of 2007. Well, it was released on Tuesday and I got my, um, hands on a copy via Netflix. I was hoping for a thoughtful exploration of what the hell happened the night that video was recorded. Unfortunately, Zoo is a frustrating mess of a movie.

Zoo (2007): A Horse Is a Horse (DUH!)

Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural, or, the Best Coming-of-Age Lesbian Vampire Movie Ever!
Many moons ago I hosted a review forum for one of my favorite horror flicks, Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural, also known as Lady Dracula, and the super classy alternate title, The Rape of the Vampires. I recently found the initial synopsis I did for this low-budget slice of weirdness, and figured I should archive it somewhere. Sadly, I can't find any of the discussion that ensued, but I'm pleased that I have found the original scene-by-scene recap. Obviously, there are spoilers below. If you haven't seen the movie, make sure you check the version Synapse Films released a while back. (Support indie horror distributors!)
Lemora opens with a black screen and the debaucherous sounds
of an adulterous couple in action. The
tinted blue picture finally appears with a crazed 1920s-type gangster (William Whitton) standing in a
doorway with a gun. He blows away the couple in bed, flees the scene in his
car, and runs down an elderly woman in the middle of the road! This first
over-the-top sequence may suggest that the film is going to be somewhat pulpy or campy,
but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
