Beer Bitch Project! Part 8: Sweet and Sour!

Pumpkin Beer #15: Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela

Jolly Pumpkin not only wins my vote for best microwbrewery logo, but they probably have one of the most unique pumpkin beers I've ever tasted.  Truthfully, if you're familiar with JP, then their take on a pumpkin beer won't be too much of a surprise.  Translated--this is an extremely sour pumpkin beer.  But it totally works.  The tartness is in the forefront while the pumpkin lingers in the background, followed an unexpected hint of cacao.  It's a strange flavor combination that probably doesn't sound that great, but it's scrumptious and a seasonal staple in my household.  It pours a beautiful, light golden orange.

Pumpkin Beer #16: Timmerman's Pumpkin Lambicus

I have to say, the thought of a pumpkin lambic is kind of a gross-out, so there's that bias out on the bartop.  I've never ventured too far into lambic territory because it reminds me too much of wineTimmerman's Pumpkin lambic (which is probably the only pumpkin lambic I've ever seen) is a little too sugary and too acidic, finishing with a sour that tastes more like a yawn after experiencing the JP pumpkin sour.  The pumpkin flavor is dry and subtle.  It's unexpectedly drinkable--I finished the bottle quicker than I'd finish most pints, which isn't really a good thing with something this sweet.  Gave me a sugar buzz.

Pumpkin Beer #17: Ace Pumpkin Hard Cider

OK, I realize this isn't really a pumpkin beer, but when I saw this in the liquor store, I had to succumb to the novelty!  I've never tried an ACE beverage before, but apparently they're known for their various fruit hard ciders.  While I'm not much of a cider drinker, I appreciate this unique twist, and definitely appreciate that they have a pumpkin cider.   It's very smooth, but not at all what I'd guess a pumpkin cider would taste likeIt has a very prominent smokiness that I don't really understand, but it was off-putting to my taste buds.  Fortunately, it's not as candy-sweet as most ciders I've hadIt grew on me the second day, when I tried another bottle (or two).  If you're a cider drinker, I'd say give it a go.
